Supervised Google Accounts to Get YouTube Music

Almost a year ago, in February 2021, YouTube announced a new supervised subscription for teens who are ready to stop using YouTube Kids and get used to the full version. The feature is still in the beta stage, but the company is making it much more attractive by adding YouTube music to the bundle. More details are below.

Full Stack

Google Family Link subscribers have already received a letter that confirms the expansion of the upcoming supervised experience. It says that the feature is coming out “in the coming weeks” and will include access to YouTube Music from the start. Both video and music streaming experiences will work on all the originally supported devices, including TVs, Android, iOS, and web browsers. Parents will have full control over the videos and music available to their kids and view the history of watched videos and tracks. Google says that it's working on a control feature set that is flexible enough to support the unique content needs of every child.

Previously, YouTube Music was included in family plans but wasn’t available for the parental control system. This mistake will be fixed soon and supply children with filtered content from both video and music services. Hopefully, the new service won’t take long to roll out globally and will offer affordable plans for everyone.

Safer Now?

Does your family use YouTube Kids? Does this app filter the content well enough? What do you think about the upcoming options to manually limit the content your children can view? Will it really work or do kids know how to bypass the obstacles to stream what’s not created for them? It’s also very exciting how supervision affects the relationships of teenagers and their parents. Tell us what you think in the comments and share this announcement with friends.
