Google Expands Gemini App Functionality with New Google Keep and Tasks Extensions for Pixel 9 Users

Recent developments have occurred regarding the Gemini application on the Pixel 9 series smartphones. Google has introduced two new extensions to enhance the usability of its applications, particularly Google Keep and Google Tasks. These additions are currently accessible to Google Workspace users through the Gemini app. Although these functionalities are active on the newest Pixel devices, there is no information on when they will be rolled out to earlier Pixel models or other Android devices. In addition, the company recently unveiled AI agent Gems and the Imagen 3 image generation model to a select group of Gemini users.

Details about the newly launched extensions have been made public by the company, along with guidance on how users can take advantage of them. Nonetheless, it's significant to highlight that these attributes are currently inaccessible to those using the free version of the Gemini app.  To access the extensions, users must possess a Google Workspace account and a Pixel 9 series smartphone.

Upon logging into the Gemini app with the same credentials as their Workspace account, users can navigate to the account menu within the app. By scrolling to the Extensions page, they will find both Google Keep and Google Tasks. After activating the desired extension, users can use its features by typing ‘@’ followed by the extension's name in Gemini's text field.

With the Google Keep extension in the Gemini app, users can efficiently create notes and lists. By merely providing a title, they can prompt the extension to generate a note or list. Furthermore, it can create notes based on ongoing conversations with the AI. This extension is also capable of suggesting activities for events, outlining discussion topics, or detailing steps for achieving specific goals.

Conversely, the Gemini application cannot modify existing notes, remove notes or lists, share them, view images or drawings, or incorporate an image into a note. Regarding the Google Tasks extension, it allows users to add reminders and tasks by specifying details such as date, time, and task description within a text prompt. Additionally, reminders can be set based on conversation contexts with the AI; for example, if a user inquires about a movie's release date, they can subsequently ask it to schedule a reminder two days prior to the premiere to purchase tickets.

It is important to note that the extensions are currently available only in English and on a select range of devices. Google has announced plans to expand the availability of these features to more devices and languages in the near future.
